How to Care for Tie

Caring for a tie isn’t as simple as you may think. A tie requires much more than being clumsily stuffed in a drawer when it’s not being worn. It also requires care when being taken off. The best way to keep your ties in great condition is to have enough of them so you're not wearing them out too fast. This is also a less expensive way to give depth to your wardrobe. As a rule of thumb you should have three or four ties that go with each suit or sport outfit.

Here are the tips on how to care your ties:

• Each time you remove your tie, untie the knot by reversing the method used to tie the tie. Do not pull the small end of your tie through the knot.
• After removing, hang the tie on a tie rack or drape them around the collar of the coat. Hanging the tie up properly allows the creases from the knot to fall out; plus, hanging it in your closet keeps it out of bright, natural light that can fade the fabric.
• To remove wrinkles, usually it is enough to place the tie on its tie rack overnight. If that doesn’t work, rollup the tie, small end first and let it sit for a day. Finally, you may steam the tie.
•  Carrying a handheld steamer while traveling is great not only for ties, but also for shirts, pants and suits.
• Use care while eating with a tie on to avoid getting food on it. If you stain your tie, take action quickly. Blot the stain with cold water as this prevents it from setting.
